about this event
Nature has something to say. Let's give it a voice. On Saturday, 24 October, the AI for Nature Hackathon closes Munich Climate Week by launching real nature data into action.
Here's the state of the art in nature monitoring: reserve managers in South Africa count animals by hand, from helicopters. Corporate sustainability teams report on nature in adjectives. Meanwhile satellites, acoustic sensors and camera traps produce loads of ecological data we are not using. We'd like to fix a small piece of that.
The data: acoustic sensor and microclimate data from Hula Earth's projects across Europe, plus one hyperlocal Munich dataset or satellite imagery, drone footage and camera-trap images from AMES Foundation's conservation projects across roughly 100,000 hectares in South Africa.
The tracks: one main challenge per track, plus optional extras, are introduced on the day. Africa – make biodiversity visible: show how a reserve changes over time. Europe – turn sound into a nature score: species detections meet satellite data.
The prizes: a white card to the AI NATION final pitch for the overall winner; €2,000 in prize money from UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators; invitation to an exclusive, paid AI adoption project with Vsquared Ventures; $1,000 in OpenAI credits for the winners, plus free credits for everyone on the day. For everyone taking part: a special rate for an AMES conservation experience in South Africa.
The day: 10:00–20:00 at the Hula Earth office. Short intros from AMES and Hula Earth, the challenge briefing, building through the day with mentors on site, pitches to the jury in the evening and dinner. Lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks are fully covered, thanks to AI NATION.
The registration: applications are open now and close on Wednesday, 21 October. Spots are limited and confirmed on a rolling basis!
Who should join? Developers, ML and data people, designers, business builders. No ecology background required! Apply as a team or by yourself.
The event is supported by AI NATION, UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators and Vsquared Ventures.
Language: English. Wheelchair accessible upon request. Event free of charge. Hosted by: Net Positive (an Initiative of the Center for Digital Technology and Management), Manage & More, Hula.Earth, AMES Foundation.
Please note that photographs and video recordings will be taken during the event for documentation, reporting, and public communication purposes; for online events, this includes recordings of the session and screenshots. If you do not wish to be included in such recordings, please let us know on site or, for online events, at the start of the session (e.g. via chat) – you are also welcome to keep your camera switched off. We will take this into consideration.
